Lenovo Laptops with Stretchable and Foldable Displays

Authored by Tom K.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Lenovo showcased two groundbreaking laptop concepts that push the boundaries of flexible display technology. While most manufacturers are still exploring foldable screens, Lenovo has introduced two unique approaches—one featuring a rollable display that expands, and another with a foldable screen that bends outward, proving that the future of computing is already here.
The first device, ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, features a screen that extends to increase its display size, while the ThinkBook codename Flip AI PC utilizes an outward-folding screen, nearly doubling its working surface area.
ThinkBook Plus Gen 6: A Rollable Display That Transforms the User Experience
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is the first commercial laptop with a rollable display, expanding its screen size just like a window blind. In its standard state, it has a 14-inch OLED display, but with a press of a button or a simple hand gesture, the screen expands to 16.7 inches in just 10 seconds.
Key Features of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable:
- OLED display by Samsung Display
- Resolution: 2000×1600 pixels (standard) | 2000×2350 pixels (expanded)
- Durability: 20,000+ roll cycles and 30,000 hinge openings/closings
- Expands without visible hinges or breaks
- Dual-screen functionality: Can be used as two separate 16:9 displays
Although minor creases may be visible from certain angles, they are hardly noticeable during everyday use. Availability starts in June 2025, with a starting price of $3,499.
ThinkBook Flip AI PC: A Foldable Display That Expands into an 18.1-inch Workstation
The ThinkBook codename Flip AI PC takes an even bolder approach with a 13-inch foldable OLED screen that bends outward, expanding into an impressive 18.1-inch display.
What Sets Flip Apart?
- Larger working area: Unlike rollable displays, Flip fully utilizes its panel
- Multiple Modes: Vertical mode for documents, tablet mode, and a tent mode for content sharing
- Smart ForcePad: A next-generation illuminated touchpad with adaptive controls
- Performance: Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB RAM, PCIe SSD storage
While impressive, the Flip concept still faces some challenges, such as stability issues with the hinge and screen vulnerability when closed. Lenovo has no immediate plans for mass production, but the prototype demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation.
With these next-generation designs, Lenovo is proving that flexible displays are not just a trend but a defining feature of the future of mobile computing.
